Received his Bachelors
degree from Lund University in 1987.
After two years in journalism he returned to academia and joined
a research project directed by Prof. Sven Tägil on the crisis
of the nation-state.
From 1991 to 1994 Mikael was a researcher at The European University Institute in Florence.
In 1995 he presented his PhD thesis on Sweden and West European
integration 1945-59.
From 1995 to 1999: worked on a research project on Sweden and
the Stable Peace.
During the academic year 1998-99 he was a Senior Associate Member
of St. Antony's
College, Oxford.
From 1999 a research fellow in European Cultural Integration
at the Swedish Council for Research in the Humanities and Social
Sciences (HSFR).
